Less water and higher tariffs

The restrictions and increased tariffs will especially punish households that use more than the prescribed 15 kilolitres per month.

THE uMhlathuze Municipality, in light of the worsening drought, has announced serious new water restrictions and increased tariffs – which will especially punish households that use more than the prescribed 15 kilolitres per month.

Restrictions are as follows:
• For urban households, 50% water restrictions will apply between 5am and 7am, and between 9am and 8pm. There will be no water supply between 8pm and 5am.

• For rural households, 50% water restrictions will apply between 4am and 8am; and between 9am and 8pm. There will be no water supply between 8pm and 4am.

• For commercial users, 50% water restrictions will apply between 7am and 10pm. There will be no water supply between 10pm and 6am.

The new tariffs are available on the municipality’s website and will be published in the Zululand Observer Weekender publication.
