Statistics of older model cars stolen are a concern

Imagine leaving your car with its doors locked and windows properly closed then coming back not to find it there. That is the story of one of the victims whose car was stolen at a parking area.

Since January this year there has been a high number of older model cars stolen. Almost every weekend there is a vehicle stolen mostly at parking areas.

A 28-year-old woman started her weekend on a bad note when her green Volkswagen Golf 1 was stolen. The incident happened on Friday afternoon, May 4. She parked the vehicle at Christiaan De Wet Street to collect her daughter at a local school. Moments later when she returned, the car was missing. Not only did she lose her car, but also her bag with her wallet that had valuable items was taken.

“Imagine the shock I got when I saw that my car was not where I left it. I looked everywhere and did not find it. I was terrified. The only thing I had with me was my car keys and cell phone, everything else was taken with the car,” said the woman still in disbelief.

The car has not been found yet and its registration number is JBN 867 MP.

On the same day a Volkswagen City Golf, 1996 model was stolen at a local mall’s parking area around 12:30. Later on in the early evening a Toyota Hilux Dakar was stolen. With regards to the bakkie there is a good story to tell as it was found at a farm with the assistance of a tracking company. Even though the car was found the whole dashboard was damaged and stripped off.

One Saturday a white Toyota Tazz was stolen at Mandela Drive.

On Sunday, May 6 only one incident was reported to the police, it is that of a Toyota single cap bakkie, 2000 model. It was stolen at Klipfontein. The direction the vehicle was taken in is unknown.
