Gauteng transport dept to issue special festive season interprovincial permits

The department will only issue special interprovincial permits to recognised operators, and applications must be submitted three days before departure date.

The Gauteng department of roads and transport (GPDRT) is calling upon Gauteng taxi operators to apply for special interprovincial operating permits for the festive season.

This as commuters are expected to travel to different provinces during the December holiday season. The special permits will cater for trips to be undertaken throughout until January 1, 2018.

Applications will close on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at 3pm.

The issuing of special permits is aimed at improving compliance, reducing illegal trips and preventing the impounding of vehicles by law enforcement agencies.

These are reportedly challenges encountered by Gauteng taxi operators when conveying passengers on special trips outside the province.

The department will only issue special interprovincial permits to recognised operators, and applications must be submitted three days before departure date.

Interested operators should meet the following requirements: proof of valid operating licence, valid tax clearance certificate from Sars, certified certificate of registration, roadworthy certificate, letter of support signed by the operating organisation and a pledge committing that normal services will not be interrupted.
