Twitter is puzzled after Eric Tinkler drops bombshell

Cape Town City says the club will make an announcement within the next seven days as to who will replace Tinkler after he resigned.

Cape Town City announced today that Eric Tinkler has resigned as head coach of the Absa Premiership club after a year at the club. The news came as a surprise to some fans, as he recently purchased a house in Cape Town, and was due to move into it in 10 days’ time.

The former Orlando Pirates mentor signed a three-year contract with the team in hope of keeping the club afloat in their first full season in the PSL. Cape Town City said the club would make an announcement within the next seven days as to who the club’s new head coach would be.

“CTFC is saddened to announce that coach Eric Tinkler has broken his three-year contract, just weeks before pre-season, by his choice, through a buyout clause,” the statement read.

“The club, management, players, fans and entire city of Cape Town are as determined as ever to show resolve and stand up for our footballing vision.”

“The club has been overwhelmed by the interest in the position, but one true candidate has emerged. We will be announcing the new CTFC head coach in the next seven days.”

SuperSport, also known as Matsatsantsa, has confirmed Tinkler’s appointment as their new head coach.

Social media expressed a mixture of emotions, with some saying Tinkler was cheating himself for leaving Cape Town City for Matsatsantsa.
