Stuff to do before the Kings of Chaos concert

The resort’s Hall of Treasures, which provides direct access to the Superbowl where the concerts are taking place, will feature an expansive beer garden where visitors can kick back and relax while they wait for the show. There will be snacks and drinks on sale, as well as live bands providing entertainment before the Saturday concert.

The first band in the Saturday line-up is Holly & the Woods at 3pm. This five-piece band’s songs Save Me and Not Like Me, from their 2008 debut album, were both hit singles on Highveld’s Homebrew chart and also dominated the charts on stations such as Ofm, Tuks FM, Kovsie FM, PUK Fm and MFm, to name a few. Highlights of the band’s live career were their support slots with Seether’s Shaun Morgan and Eagle-Eye Cherry.

Following Holly & the Woods at 4pm is Southern Gypsy Queen (SGQ). This popular rock band has enjoyed over ten years of touring the country, playing anywhere between 180 to 200 shows a year. In those ten years SGQ has released four studio albums as well as an unplugged album. SGQ play a blues infused rock ‘n roll show that isn’t afraid to folk it up, funk it up or get a little bit country.

At 5pm, Black Cat Bones take to the stage. The band comprises Kobus de Kock Jnr (lead vocals); Andre Kriel (guitar / vocals); Chris van der Walt (bass), and Jason Hinch (drums). Their collective influences fuse together in an audio diary made up of modern blues, rock, folk, and country-inspired music, paying tribute to the founders of these classic genres while maintaining a strong modernised presence.

With the release of their latest full length album Beatipiller (SAMA Nominated for Best Rock Album 2014), the Bones have once again reinvented their sound.

The last band in the line-up is Shadowclub at 6pm. Their rootsy, bluesy rock is purposely fuss free. The dozen songs on their debut album, Guns And Money, were recorded live with no click tracks and no guide tracks.

Modern recording techniques may have been used, but they certainly weren’t relied on. Shadowclub are about powerful songs, performed with a passion that explodes from the speakers and, live, can be felt at full force by their fans.
