Shark nets out of place at KZN’s Scottburgh Beach, warns authorities

The South African Weather Service has issued a warning against severe thunderstorms in the province.

Beachgoers in KwaZulu-Natal have been advised to avoid swimming at Scottburgh Beach due to the shifting of the shark safety gear as a result of rough seas.

The beach was temporarily closed on Wednesday.

“The team has managed to remove some of the bunched nets this morning but had to beach when the sea conditions became dangerous. A notice on the reopening of the beach will be issued once we are satisfied that it is safe for use. Your cooperation in this regard will be highly appreciated,” said the Umdoni municipality.

Mayor of Umdoni Municipality Thabani Dube on Wednesday morning visited the Scottburgh Beach to personally warn the beachgoers about the shark nets.

The South African Weather Service has issued a warning against severe thunderstorms over parts of uThukela, uMgungundlovu, Harry Gwala, and Ugu District Municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal this afternoon.
