Pillow talk at Sex Actually Festival

Speaking actively and transparently about sex, relationships, masculinities and gender-based violence, the festival focuses on dynamic dialogue as a driver for community engagement.

The festival aims to provide insight on sex matters and explore gender-specific reproductive health issues. Performance arts as well as “talkshops” like the DFL Sex Talk Series, will be utilised in a variety of explorative ways: from inside the theatre, cutting edge street performances, facilitated processes and workshops, to film and multi-media interventions, as well as practical access to information and testing.

This year’s festival highlights are well-known acts in the theatre scene, like Standard Bank Young Artist 2013 Award winner Fana Tshabalala, who will be performing the dynamic play Between Us at the festival opening.

The 2011 SALA award-winner for poetry Phillippa Yaa de Villiers, and Myesha Jenkins, co-host of the Jozi House Of Poetry, are among the sensational cast of Secret To The Moon, and The Reconciled Project by Sasol New Signatures Art Competition finalist Mari-Louise du Plessis involves a real-time interactive audiovisual performance.

The main festival will take place at the Wits Theatre complex, located on Jorissen Street, Braamfontein, as well as at the Soweto Theatre for the cutting-edge performance Through Positive Eyes.
