Matthew Mole is looking forward to Parklife

Matthew Mole is set to be one of the star attractions at Fridays gourmet food and music festival Parklife. The festival, which also includes performances from Lady Zamar, Desmond & The Tutus, aKing, Ross Learmonth (from Prime Circle), Janie Bay, Werner Bekker, and Charlie Finch, will be taking place at the Emmarentia Botanical Gardens and kicks off at 10.30 am.

Matthew’s last gig was ironically also at Emmarentia way back in May, and he says he is looking forward to making this one special.

“I’ve had the best time over the last 3 years on tour playing all of the music from my first two albums. All over South Africa and my first headline shows in Europe, UK and USA,” he says. while also dropping hints that fans can expect to see something new on Friday.

‘For the last 8 months, I’ve been writing and recording my third album. It’s almost ready to see the world!’

For Matthew, an event like Parklife is essentially the perfect forum from which to showcase his talent. Parklifevwill, in addition to the music, also consist of a carefully curated food village consisting of the best the city has to offer in gourmet street food, can sometimes be trickier to play for performers, but he says he is blessed.

“I’ve been very fortunate to have people get to know some of my songs, so their singing along always helps!” he says, adding, “I try to do things that get the audience involved in the show so that their attention moves from whatever is going on offstage, to us”.

It’s not just the audience that appreciates the variety of bands on the show, as Matthew explains the diverse lineup is also a drawcard for him when he signs up. “It’s always a massive honour to play on stages with bands like these!” he enthuses.

He particularly says he enjoys playing with “Desmond & The Tutus”  –  “I love those guys” and adds that his good friend Charlie Finch is playing too, which he advises people to watch.

Tickets are available from Howler and cost R225 for men, and, because it’s women’s day, R195 for ladies.
