Instagram couple flooded with hate after begging for free holiday
Most commentators insisted the couple get jobs instead.
An Instagram couple have been torn to shreds online after they requested followers of their Instagram account donate them $11 000 (R160 000) so they could travel through Africa.
Self-described “lovers, travellers, dream chasers” Catalin Onc and Elena Engelhardt run an Instagram account called Another Beautiful Day Official, where they have 34.8k followers, and made the request saying, “We want to take you all on this huge adventure. A celebration of life, as we ride freely across mountains, by the sea and through metropolitans. We will show the beauty of this planet and it’s [sic] inhabitants, but also the ugliness.”
While six people have thus far donated a total of $200 (R2900) the vast majority of the responses to the request have been resoundingly negative with people repeatedly insisting the couple instead “get a job”.
“Bloody hell, you’ve got to be joking!” commented one person. “Who gave these egotistical brats money?? Shameful self-indulgent bludgers … Now notorious … And easily identified.”
“This stupid stunt will follow you both for the rest of your lives. Your poor mother. This whole horrible thing just makes me feel sad,” said another.
The couple responded saying they were horrified people were making this all about money. The account declared on Instagram that due to their follower numbers they could be very wealthy, but instead choose to live frugally while travelling and rely on one of their mothers to help them out with cash.

This post did not help and merely fanned the flames with people calling the couple selfish for forcing their mother to have to support them. Despite this the couple seems determined to not follow advice and remain unemployed. Indeed, Onc and Engelhardt have previously discussed their unemployed status, “I have seen and done too much to just go back to a ‘normal’ job,” Onc wrote in an earlier Instagram post.
