Grand landscapes at La Dolce Vita

Except for the odd man walking his dog here and there, folks seem to like to keep indoors and enjoy the view of the magnificent dam from the comfort of their houses.

The numerous guesthouses and lodges, however, see a lot of action and traffic during this time of year. La Dolce Vita is one of the finest accommodation options in the area, with a mixture of rugged decor and luxurious creature comforts cloaked in white. Indeed it doesn’t look like much from the outside – it’s rather bland – but it is impressive once you enter.

The luxury rooms are tastefully furnished with king or queen-size beds, wingback chairs, TV, mini bar, tea and coffee stations and air conditioning. Three of the rooms have balconies and three have cozy garden patios. The mood is relaxed and those in rooms higher up are treated to gorgeous sunsets as some of those rooms command magnificent views of the dam from their en-suite spa baths.

Sundowners are best taken on the ferry that takes guest for trips out on the dam. It is better to enjoy this experience with a group of friends or family – the more the merrier. Drinks and snacks are available on the ferry and depen-ding on the age demographic of the passengers on the day, a DJ spins some tunes while the ferry moves about the dam.

Taking in the amber sunset illuminating the waters of Hartebeespoort Dam is a special treat. Tranquility is the order of the day on this ride and the world’s worries can easily disappear for a moment while you marvel at nature’s wonders. Hartebeespoort Dam is just around the corner from the rush and pace of Joburg, proving that a quick “sho’t left” is indeed the perfect tonic for some rest and relaxation close to home.
