Cape Town named ‘most Instagrammed autumn city’ in Africa

There is always a ‘this has to be shared on the gram’ moment that occurs every day for people who love the social media app Instagram, and Cape Town always seems to be the location.

It is a phrase that many people who frequent the app use.

South Africa’s beautiful landscape and backdrop have always been praised by locals and internationals alike, but the city of Cape Town always seems to steal the spotlight from all the other cities.

This has never been more proven by a Premier Inn research that found that Cape Town was the most Instagrammed city in Africa for the season of autumn.

The website wanted to discover which locations are the most popular in autumn, to help inspire people’s future getaways. They explored Instagram data to reveal the places with the most autumn-related hashtags and made a list from around the world from their findings.

The number of hashtags counted for was #autumnincity and #fallincity and were compared for cities in the United Kingdom (UK), America, Australia and New Zealand, Europe, Africa, South America, Asia and the Middle East.

In Africa, Cape Town was by far the leader on Instagram with 2,017 hashtags, with Johannesburg at just 250 hashtags and Durban in third at 128 hashtags.

In the UK, London unsurprisingly ranked first with 72,000 hashtags and globally New York was number one overall with 151,136 hashtags.

In Asia, the most popular autumnal Asian city on Instagram was Seoul in South Korea with 22,114 hashtags, Kyoto in Japan was second with 13,043 hashtags.

In South America, the beauty of the photos during the autumn season was thanks to the gorgeous trees that line the parks and streets. Bueno Aires in Argentina had the most hashtags in the continent with 360.
