Boy bands invade Joburg stages

Australia's hugely successful show Boys In A Band celebrates the world's greatest hits from the most iconic boy bands of all time. The season in South Africa opens at The Mandela at Joburg Theatre for two weeks from October 1.

In the past 50 years, there have been many synchronized, harmonising boy bands, each of them just a bit different from the last. From Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync to The Bee Gees, The Beach Boys, The Jackson 5, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, this show highlights the most popular outfits of all time.

Boys In A Band also features four talented, versatile young performers. The look and feel of the show is slick and sophisticated, with the boys stylishly dressed by Melbourne-based award-winning fashion designer Arthur Galan.

The show features classic songs such as I Want It That Way, I Wish For You, Walk Like a Man, Sherry, Can’t Buy Me Love, Let It Be, Hey Jude, Imagine, Blame it on the Boogie, ABC, Unchained Melody, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Surfin’ USA, Good Vibrations, Night Fever and Stayin’ Alive – as well as medleys of various other hits.

Backed by a live onstage band, the Boys In A Band team are Simon Brook McLachlan, Leigh Sleightholme, Vaingana Matapule and Tom Sharah – all from Sydney, Australia.

Between them, they have starred in major music theatre productions, television and films across the globe. Known in the industry as “triple threats”, these boys can sing, dance and act.
