The United Democratic Movement (UDM) was formed as an anti-separatist and pro-diversity party in 1997. It was formed by former National Party leader Roelf Meyer and former ANC leader Bantu Holomisa. Holomisa helped form the party after being booted by the ANC for making bribery allegations against it in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
