Karolina Pliskova, one of the leading players on the WTA Tour, is likely to receive a substantial after she damaged an umpire’s chair in a fit of rage in the third round of the Italian Open.
The Czech was left furious after an overhead smash was called out by the official at a crucial stage of her match against Greece’s Maria Sakkari.
Pliskova was served at 30-all with the final set deadlocked at 5-5 and went on to lose the match very much based on that decision.
It was a poor one admittedly.
Afterwards, she briefly congratulated her opponent before withdrawing her outstretched hand to the umpire and smashing the chair.
Pretty aggressive stuff!
