V8 saloons head up Big Z programme

Top billing on a full programme will go to the Trans Africa Racing Pre-1966 Legends of the 9 Hour Production Cars, with a half dozen drivers of V8-engined vehicles fighting for the day’s top honours. Heading up the entry list will be Jaki Scheckter, in his Pablo Clark Ford Galaxie, who is fighting for the championship against Franco Scribante in his Remos Ford Mustang GT350.

Threatening to upset their title fight are drivers like Charl Arrangies (TAR Chevelle), Jonathan du Toit (TAR Chev Nova), Thomas Falkiner (Sunday Times Ford Mustang) and Hennie Groenewald (SP Mercury Comet). Also not to be left out of the equation are Mark du Toit (Chev Biscayne) and MJ Maerien (Ford Fairlane).

The two-litre class will feature strong performances from drivers like Rob Gearing (BMW), Stuart Greig (Mini Cooper), Denzil Bhana (Mini Cooper S), Colin Ellison (Alfa Romeo Junior).

The Dotsure.co.za Pre-1968 Sports & GT category will see cousins Franco and Dino Scribante fight for the year’s top accolade in their identical Ford GT40 entries. Able to interfere will be Ross Lazarus (Ford GT40) and Mark du Toit (TAR Lola T70 Spyder).

Frank Klinkert will compete in his seriously fast Class B Cobra against the likes of Warren Lombard (Johnspeed Cobra), Jonathan du Toit (TAR Daytona Coupe), Peter Lindenberg (Ford Daytona Coupe) and Oliver Dalais (Ford GT40).

The Genie ISP Prototype category will be led by the Lola T70 of Colin Clay and the Porsche 917 of Colin Frost. They could be challenged by Jonathan du Toit (TAR Chevron B8), Herman Kluge (Brumos Porsche RSR), Carel Pienaar (SP Chev Camaro), Peter Baily (Porsche 917) and Josh Dovey (Lotus 26R).

Racing with the prototypes the Metal Used Spares TransAm category will boast entries from Marius Wait (Ford Mustang), Mike Schmidt (Capri Perana), Seef Fourie (Datsun 160Y) and Mike Wentzel (Autohaus BMW 2002).

The TAR Pre-1966 Little Giants Challenge will see a large and varied entry headed by the Alfa Giulietta of Colin Ellison, the Alfa Ropmeo Giulietta of Trevor Tuck, the GSM Dart of Ishmail Baloyi, the Mini Marcos of Stuart Greig, the Corsair 83 of Alan Poulter, the Mini Cooper S of Peter Collings and the Jaguar D-Type of Keith van Heerden.

There will also be races for Marlboro Crane Hire Pre-77 Historic Saloon Cars, Investchem Formula Ford single seaters, Sabat Lotus Challenge cars and Consolidated Auctioneers Marque cars.

Racing starts at 10am with the gates open from 6am. Admission is R60 per adult and R40 per student with children under 12 free.
