Having held the lead for most of the day, Colin Nel was joined this afternoon by James Kamte and Trevor Fisher Jnr at five-under-par on the first day of the 54-hole event at the Wild Coast Sun Country Club.
Consecutive birdies on the opening holes got Nel off to a good start and he added birdies on holes four and eight before dropping one on the par four ninth to go out in 32 strokes. His scoring slowed somewhat on the back nine with birdies on the 12th and 16th.
Kamte, beginning his day on the 10th tee, birdied three holes in his front nine and added another four on his second stretch with his only blemishes being bogeys on the first and sixth as he moved to a share of the lead.
There was only one bogey on Fisher’s scorecard with a bogey on the par three 13th to go with two birdies on the front nine and an impressive four birdies after the turn.
There’s a one shot gap to Andrew McClardy who shot 66 with a group of six players a further shot behind at three-under-par.
