Supercars at Zwartkops

The 2019 Regional Extreme Festival motorsport tour will kick off in style at the Zwartkops Raceway near Pretoria this Saturday, with nine separate categories on both four and two wheels.

Topping the show will be two races for Mobil 1 V8 Supercars, with 15 450 kW vehicles with huge wings and tyres entered.

Frontrunners should include Mackie Adlem (Adlem Auto Jaguar XKR), Thomas Reib (Cafe 9 Chevy V8), Terry Wilford (Fuchs Ford Falcon), Roelf du Plessis (LSP Group Corvette), David Coetzee (ELKSA Ford Falcon), Antonie Marx (Xado Jaguar), Larry Wilford (Fuchs Corvette) and Steve Herbst (Prei Instrumentation Corvette).

The Supercars should certainly set the day’s quickest lap time. Judging by the action thus far this season, the MotorMart VW Challenge category should provide extremely close racing.

The man to beat is defending champion Rory Atkinson (BHIT Polo) who will be facing off against drivers like Lyle Ramsay (Monroe Polo), Waldie Meintjies (Allwagen Parts Polo), Gavin Ross (Norbrake Polo), Mohamed Dangor (MotorMart Polo) and Marc Ackermann (Raleigh SA Polo).

Stiaan Kriel (Kalex Polo) should head up Class B, versus Deon Holliday Jnr (Monitor Net Polo), Bruce May (BPM Engineering Polo), Reead Essop (FTP Signing Polo) and Elna Croeser (Race Technology Polo).

A widely diverse field will tackle the races for Car Care Clinic Superhatch vehicles, led by Jonathan du Toit (TAR Honda Civic), Brett Garland (AutObarn Honda Civic), Andre Dannhauser (Pro Auto Opel Corsa), Trevor Stringer (Citrine Designs Peugeor 206), Louis Scholtz (Car Care Clinic Honda Civic), Andre de Lange (Roofsure Audi A3), Tyler Scott (Episerve Opel Kadett TS), Melanie Spurr (Itre Cugini Polo), Wouter Roos (Nathans Polo), Nic Martin (RDG Peugeot 207), Francois Henning (Selection Registration Polo) and Zane van Zyl (Credit Guarantee Golf). With 40 drivers to face the starter, the Car Care Clinic 111 Sports and Saloon Car races will boast the event’s largest entry lists.

Top contenders should include George Bezuidenhout (Accolade Nissan Primera), George Economides (Wealth Ave BMW 328i), Adrian Dalton (Xtra Clothes VW Golf), Rory Eland (Dialogic Polo), Ismael Peck (NHM Honda Civic), Veritie-Anne Joubert (Honda Spares Balade), Mark Ellis (Porsche 924), Dirk Lawrence (JDM Tuning Honda Balade), Phillip Emmenis Rotry BMW M3) and Lucas Bezuidenhout (Pta Noord Toyota Lexus).

Adding a historic note to proceedings will be two races for SKF Pre-1966 Legend Under Two-Litre and Little Giant cars.

Topping the Under Two-Litre list should be Roger Houston (CTR Alfa Romeo), Vic Campher (Volvo 122S), Alan Poulter (Volvo 122S) and Mark du Toit (Alfa Romeo Sprint). Ishmael Baloyi (GSM Dart Alfa) should be the man to beat in the Little Giants class and he’ll be chased by Kassie Coetzee (Volvo P1800), Terrance Khalo (GSM Dart Alfa), Chad ten Doeschate (Alfa Spyder), Stephan Britz (CTR MGB), Christopher Carlisle-Kitz (Ford Anglia) and Jaco Taylor (Alfa Romeo).

Graeme van Breda (Stefanutti Stocks ZX10) will be the man to beat in the Red Square Kawasaki Masters Cup races. He’ll be chased by people like Jaco Gous (Kawasaki ZX10), Teddy Brooke (Brooke Fridges ZX10), Jonty Collard (Pappaz Pizza ZX10), Andre’ van Vollenstee (Kawasaki ZX10), Greg Bezuidenhout (Kawasaki ZX10) and Johan le Roux (Avidan ZX10). Harry Timmermann (APCC BMW) will head up the Bridgestone Superbikes.

  • The gates will be open from 7am, with qualifying sessions for all categories commencing at 7.30am
  • Racing will start at 11.20am.
  • Admission will cost R120 per adult and R90 per student, with kids under the age of 12 going in for free
  • Everybody can visit the pits on foot at any time, with the circuit’s Mini Moke people trains running between the pit gates and spectator points throughout the day
  • Food and drink will be on sale or you may take your own. Parking is free and plentiful.
