Karolina Pliskova, one of the leading players on the WTA Tour, is likely to receive a substantial after she damaged an umpire’s chair in a fit of rage in the third round of the Italian Open.
The Czech was left furious after an overhead smash was called out by the official at a crucial stage of her match against Greece’s Maria Sakkari.
Pliskova was served at 30-all with the final set deadlocked at 5-5 and went on to lose the match very much based on that decision.
It was a poor one admittedly.
Afterwards, she briefly congratulated her opponent before withdrawing her outstretched hand to the umpire and smashing the chair.
Pretty aggressive stuff!
Karolina Pliskova gets a very bad call in her 2nd round match and goes on to lose. Then takes her anger out on the umpires chair. Never seen this type of reaction on the women’s tour pic.twitter.com/R2t6VMoHCG
