Bucks’ Budenholzer voted NBA Coach of the Year by peers

Milwaukee Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer was named 2019 Coach of the Year by the NBA Coaches Association on Saturday after a dazzling first year which saw his team finish the season with the best record in the league.

Budenholzer, who joined the Bucks last May from the Atlanta Hawks, was given the Michael H. Goldberg NBCA Award following a vote by all 30 head coaches across the NBA.

“It is an incredible honor to be recognized by your peers, and that makes this award truly special,” Budenholzer said in a statement.

“The players’ and staffs’ work this year has given our team and our fans a very special season.”

Budenholzer’s Bucks topped the Eastern Conference this season with a 60-22 record, their best campaign since 1980-1981 and a 16-win improvement over last year.

The Bucks were also the only team in the league to rank in the top four for both offensive and defensive ratings.

“Mike Budenholzer in his first year as Head Coach of the Bucks, led the franchise to the top record in the entire NBA,” said NBCA president and Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle.

“Congratulations to Bud on this prestigious recognition.”

Milwaukee open their playoff campaign at home on Sunday with the opening game of a best-of-seven series against Detroit.
