Elite field eyes Chase jackpot

There's some serious money on offer for the elite field of 30 players who will form part of the Chase to the Investec Cup when the final event of the series tees off at Millvale today.

The Investec Cup is the final opportunity to secure points and the lion’s share of the lucrative R10-million bonus pool for the players inside the top-30 at the end of the Tshwane Open earlier this month.

The overall winner will cash in a cheque of R3.5-million while all 30 players will take home R50 000.

The opening two rounds will be played at Millvale in the Cape with the weekend rounds on the Lost City layout at Sun City.

England’s Ross Fisher is at the head of affairs with 1 819 points, thanks mainly to his victory at the Tshwane Open, but he’ll be chased down by the likes of George Coetzee and Thomas Aiken as the weekend plays out.

There are several mathematical permutations on who will take home the largest share of the bonus pool, but the1 500 points for the winner means there is plenty to play for.

Coetzee is also looking to boost his world ranking to make it into the top 50 before the cut-off date of the week ending March 30 to secure a spot in this next month’s Masters.

Aiken, who lifted the Africa Open last month, and South African Open champion, Morten Orum Madsen, are also in the mix, while Hennie Otto remains a dark horse with 1 816 points from the eight local events he played.
