The Lions’ poor Super Rugby tour has been soured even further by the news that one of their coaches has been accused of assault in Australia.
According to TimesLIVE, defence coach Joey Mongalo appeared in Sydney’s Waverley Local Court last week after allegedly engaging in the indecent assault of a female hotel staff member.
The 33-year-old was arrested on May 3 and made his court appearance on May 9.
The union said in a statement to the website that it was aware of the allegations levelled against Mongalo and wouldn’t be making any further comment as the law should run its course.
Mongalo is understood to have retained legal representation and will fight the charge.
Sydney police confirmed that he’d been released on conditional bail but will have to appear again in court on June 20.
