Sloppy Sharks anger Robert du Preez

Basic errors condemned the Durbanites to a poor start on their Super Rugby tour.

The Sharks spread their many basic errors over pretty much the entire game of their Super Rugby clash against the Brumbies in Canberra at the weekend, but coach Robert du Preez was particularly upset by their start.

The Sharks found themselves 10-0 down inside the first quarter, before they had even penetrated enemy territory, and, although they fought their way back to 1015 on the hour, they eventually went down 24-17 and could have no complaints about the better team winning.

“We really battled to get into the game, especially in the first half, because we just didn’t start well. We had very little ball or territory and our discipline let us down – we conceded four penalties in the first eight minutes. So we’re obviously very disappointed,” Du Preez said after the first game of their tour threw up a chastening defeat.

The Brumbies, who started the campaign with three away games that brought just a solitary victory over the Sunwolves, certainly looked the more motivated side and the Sharks were lacklustre and disjointed for long periods of the match.
