It was not a good weekend for South African teams in the Caf Champions League as Orlando Pirates were bundled out of the competition, while Mamelodi Sundowns also went down to Wydad Casablanca, meaning that they finished second in the group behind the Moroccan side.
The Brazilians are now facing a tough quarterfinals draw as a result of finishing second and they could be face the likes of TP Mazembe, Esperance or Al Ahly in this round.
Coming into the Absa Premiership, Bidvest Wits closed the gap on log leaders Sundowns with a 4-2 win over Bloemfontein Celtic.
Other fellow title contenders, Cape Town City, SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs could only play for draws this past weekend.
