Bidvest Wits missed out on the opportunity to topple Mamelodi Sundowns at the top when they let a 2-0 lead slip before suffering a 3-2 loss to Cape Town City.
Sundowns were earlier held to a 0-0 draw by Bloemfontein Celtic.
Wits’ loss opened an opportunity for Orlando Pirates to leapfrog them and into second spot on the log standings. Bucs edged Golden Arrows 1-0 on Saturday evening.
On Friday, Maritzburg United edged AmaZulu 2-1 in the KZN derby to keep their fight for survival alive.
In the other derby this past weekend, the Limpopo derby, Polokwane City beat Baroka 3-1.
