It was Chelsea who inflicted a first league defeat of the season on City in the reverse fixture in December, ending the champions’ long unbeaten run.
That result seems to have pierced City’s veil of invincibility. Pep Guardiola’s men have lost three more times since the defeat at Stamford Bridge, including back-to-back losses to Crystal Palace and Leicester City.
To their credit, City dusted themselves down and have hauled themselves back into the title race.
For different reasons both these sides will be keeping watching briefs on Liverpool’s home clash with Bournemouth and Manchester United’s tie at Fulham on Saturday.
By the time they take to the pitch both City and Chelsea could be trying to reclaim lost spots in the league table.
