“The Anglo-Scottish technician has established a valid contract until … June 2026”
Boavista are currently bottom of the table and five points from safety with just five games left to play in the season, making Baxter’s task look extremely difficult.
He has at least been given another season to potentially coach the team in the Portuguese second tier.
Baxter won two Betway Premiership titles, an MTN8 and a Nedbank Cup with Chiefs in his first spell in charge from 2012-2015..
He had a far less successful second spell at Amakhosi, sacked in April 2022 after 11 months in charge.
Baxter has also coached Bafana Bafana in two different spells. In the first, he resigned after failing to qualify the team for the 2006 Fifa World Cup in Germany. In the second, he led Bafana to the quarterfinals of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, before again leaving his post.

The 71 year-old takes over at Boavista having not coached since leaving Helsingborgs.
