Coach David Notoane’ Under-23 squad needed a penalty shootout to book their spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The South African Under-23 side lost to Egypt in the semi-final and had one last chance to qualify for next year’s tournament.
Notoane’s chargers beat Ghana 6-5 on penalties to win bronze at the Under-23 Afcon competition.
