Sunday World has reported that Bafana Bafana and Sundowns midfielder Percy Tau was taken into custody after doing 170km/h in his white VW Polo near the N1’s Nyl Plaza tollgate earlier this month.
The police confirmed the charges against the star and he paid bail after being taken to the Mokopane police station. He is due to appear again next month.
His spokesperson confirmed the incident and said the 23-year-old had learnt his lesson.
Tau had apparently been rushing to a development tournament for team-mate Tiyani Mabunda.
His spokesperson referred to this need to contribute to a charity event as a “Godly desire”.
