Sundowns defender in hot water

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mzikayise Mashaba has been placed on suspension after he refused to go back on the pitch for the second half of the match.

The game in question is the 2-2 against Baroka in May.

Mashaba is said to have been irritated by a pep talk from some of his teammates during the half-time break and he the reportedy removed his jersey indicating that he will not play the remaining half of the match.

“We can confirm his suspension but at the moment he remains a Sundowns player‚” said Sundowns communication manager Thulani Thuswa.

Mashaba’s agent Tim Sukazi says he is aware of the incident.

“I was advised of an incident that happened at one of their matches. I was made to believe that what happened would ordinarily arise in the heat of the moment during a football match‚” Sukazi said.

“I do not believe that it is something that has sparked trouble between Sundowns and ‘Muzi’ (Mashaba). In my opinion‚ it is one of those internal matters that has been dealt with as such.”
