Pitso warns referees to not mess up the Soweto derby

Pitso Mosimane says the match officials need to be on top of their game when Kaizer Chiefs play Orlando Pirates as they cannot afford to “mess up” the biggest rivalry in the Southern hemisphere.

The Soweto giants are set to take on each other in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinal at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on November 2 and then in the league at FNB Stadium a week later.

Mosimane has been vocal about Chiefs benefiting from refereeing errors as they sit at the summit of the Absa Premiership standings.

“It’s a big game, it’s Pirates and Chiefs, you can’t make people benefit because that one is emotional. Those referees must be on top of their game,” said Mosimane.

“They can do that against the smaller teams but this one is the big one and tough one. But let’s wait and let’s watch this movie,” he adds.

“Jingles” said he and other bold coaches in the premium division would continue to call out referees for their mistakes that Amakhosi, according to Mosimane, would often benefit from.

“They (referees) are under pressure and we are watching them. We will talk and we will complain, we say it the way we see it. Benni McCarthy says it and I say it. Other coaches don’t want to say it because they are modest.

“We want to win the championship so we will talk. Jurgen Klopp was complaining when Liverpool played Manchester United. When Klopp complains it is okay but when I complain people say why am I talking.”
