Pitso likens Chiefs to Mike Tyson’s fight and Sundowns to Floyd Mayweather

If there is one thing you cannot take away from Pitso Mosimane, it is that he is a leader when it comes to mind games.

He took a swipe at Kaizer Chiefs, saying Mamelodi Sundowns’ Absa Premiership tie against Highlands Park at the Lucas Moripe Stadium this evening is more important than their showdown with Ernst Middendorp’s table-topping Amakhosi at Loftus on Sunday.

The Mamelodi Sundowns mentor said: “Our objective is to win the league and get to 10 league titles – and we don’t have to win against Chiefs to win the league.

“To win against Chiefs is bragging rights, it is a game that everyone is waiting for.

“Sometimes we might not win, but let’s count the points in the end.

“We cannot become emotional because we are going to lose our objective.

“We need to win the 10th league title and then we can talk and be emotional with them, not now.

“It is like they [Chiefs] are going into a fight with Mike Tyson and then they want to go toe to toe.

“We are the defending champions, we have to be smart and keep going, like Floyd Mayweather, and let the judges judge in the end.

“It is a game in hand [against Highlands Park] and if we don’t win it, the gap may increase … it is a tough game, you know Highlands.

“If we win the Highlands game, we get three points and if we win the Chiefs game, we get three points.

“If we start focusing on the Chiefs game, then we are being emotional because Chiefs is not our big game, Highlands is our big game. Afterwards the talk will change.

“We need to get the three points and we know that Owen da Gama has got his team tight – no one scores easy against them.”
