Orlando Pirates coach Rulani Mokwena has shed the light on why he opted to play goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands ahead of Joris Delle in the team’s previous match against Stellenbosch FC in the Telkom Knockout last weekend.

Delle was the preferred first choice shot-stopper for the Buccaneers in their last three games, but was dropped to the bench for the Stellies game.
“We have a certain criteria we use for selecting players, not only with Wayne Sandilands but obviously one being form, another meritocracy and whoever deserves to play based on what we see at training will play,” said the Bucs coach.
“That’s how it is at Pirates, we take it one game at a time – be it a cup, a league match we just take it one game at a time and try to put the best team for that match.”
Bucs and Stellies will face off again in a space of a week when the teams meet in a league clash in Cape Town on Saturday.
