Samir Nurkovic has been given the nickname “Kokota” and he has lived up to it as he keeps knocking on opponent’s defence until they open up and let him score a goal or like he did on Wednesday night, netting a brace against Stellenbosch FC.

“Kokota” loosely translated means to “keep knocking”.

Nurkovic was named Man-of-the-Match for his displays which he capped with a brace at Cape Town Stadium where Amakhosi ran riot and thrashed Stellenbosch FC 4-0. Siyabonga Ngezana and Dumisani Zuma also contributed with a goal each.

“Once again, I am very happy to score two goals and contribute to the victory. I also want to congratulate my teammates because it was a very good team effort. Once again, we showed our character and fighting spirit. I am very happy,” he said after the match.

Amakhosi were reeling from a shock 2-1 defeat to Maritzburg United in the Telkom Knockout semifinals las Sunday and put up a brave and spirited performance at Stellies. “Kokota” says such defeats happen to even the top sides across the world.

“These things happen even to the best teams in the world, even to Barcelona. We had a two weeks break… it’s happened to everyone. We needed this victory to get our confidence back and we are going from week to week and we have to collect as much points as possible and we will see in the end.”

Nurkovic has scored five goals in 10 league appearances for Amakhosi this season and has one assist under his name.
