Bidvest Wits’ star striker Gift Motupa, who won the Absa Premiership’s Player-of-the-Month for December, said he didn’t give much mind to the limited game time he had been getting at the club.

When given a chance, Motupa has proved to be capable of helping the students by scoring some important goals.
“I waited for my chance to come because I wasn’t getting my chance in the league games. It is a situation I can’t control. The technical team can answer that question better,” he said on why he hasn’t been fully used.
“Sometimes I just see the situation and I don’t complain much. I just see it as other people’s time. My time will come and when it comes, I believe I deliver,” he added.
He said there was no need for him to go to his mentor, Gavin Hunt, and ask why he isn’t playing as a regular.
“We have a good relationship with coach Gavin and he doesn’t take things personally. Me not playing regularly, I don’t have an answer for that. But I respect the coach’s decision (on team selection). I cannot… I would be selfish [if I asked to play more] because it’s about the team and not me.
“What I can hope for is that when my chance comes, I utilise that opportunity. That’s all I can control,” he said.
Motupa believes Wits can still go on and surpass Kaizer Chiefs in the race for the Premiership title despite trailing Amakhosi by a massive 12 points. Wits, however, have three games in hand on Amakhosi.
“We absolutely have a chance to win the league and we believe we can because we have a good team. We are competitive. We are strong.
“Our coach is well experienced plus we have experienced players who have won it before. Our team is good, we motivate each other,” he said.
