Moya and FantasyGo bring SA sports fans fantasy football data free

South African Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) platform FantasyGo has joined forces with Moya to bring virtual footfall and quick wins to SA sports fans, data free.

Moya has the largest online football audience in South Africa, with 2 million monthly active users and 750 million page views per month across the football content in Moya Discover, making the platform the perfect place for FantasyGo.

“With an already established audience, we expect that FantasyGo will gain significant traction from its placement within Moya, and we know Moya users will love the experience. This partnership will make FantasyGo the largest fantasy sports platform in South Africa,” says Gour Lentell, CEO of Datafree.

Fantasy sport is a highly popular global pastime, with millions around the world building and managing teams of “real-life” players through a variety of seasonal sporting events. The real-world performance of the players determines how the virtual team does in a tournament, with winning teams earning their ‘managers’ points and cash.

The brainchild of a team of Cape Town-based fantasy sports enthusiasts and innovators, FantasyGo, is now live on Moya, where over 6.5 million Moya app users can play in public or private tournaments with no data charges.

Moya’s payment platform, MoyaPayD, will soon be integrated into FantasyGo, meaning players will be able to cash out winnings and play into leagues directly from inside Moya.

“Moya offers FantasyGo a model for distribution of the service to an already captive audience actively using the Moya platform. Even before our official launch we have seen wide interest in the service. The service has had over 9,000 registrations in the four days since it became available on Moya,” says Roland Kesler.

Fantasy Football League games attract around 8 million players – over 200,000 of them from South Africa. However, players usually have to join for the full nine-month season, which makes it difficult for many to manage teams effectively, or sometimes unable to participate at all.

FantasyGo has reduced the duration of tournaments to as little as a weekend, which means players can assemble their teams and potentially take home the prize pool much faster and without dedicating an entire season to a single team.

Moya has also included its own free-to-enter FantasyGo tournament which Moya users will be able to enter data free, with Moya sponsoring a R500 prize each week to be split between the top 10 players. Within the Moya League, all winnings automatically go into the MoyaPayD e-wallet.

Datafree’s Moya gives users a range of services including data-free messaging, Moya Calling, Moya Discover content ecosystem and the MoyaPayD mobile payment platform.
