Mbesuma urges Shonga to fight for game time at Pirates

With reports suggesting clubs outside of South Africa are trying to rescue Justin Shonga from Orlando Pirates his fellow countryman believes he should stay with the Buccaneers.

Collins Mbesuma believes Shonga should stay in South Africa and play in the PSL to rediscover his form.

Reports suggest Tanzania side Simba SC are looking to bring the Zambian striker back to their club as he continues to struggle for game time at Pirates.

But Mbesuma believes Shonga should fight to get game time under new coach Josef Zinnbauer.

Mbesuma said it was normal for strikers coming from other African countries to struggle in the beginning, recalling his loan move to Golden Arrows when he started playing in the PSL.

“Yeah, it’s a tough one for Shonga. I’m not sure what he wants for his career, but the advice I can give him is that as a soccer player, the more you play, the greater your chances of going far,” Mbesuma told Goal.

“The more you sit and don’t play, that will affect your future and I think for me, you will remember what happened to me.

“I went to Golden Arrows and I came to Pirates and played regularly. So, I think it’s all about what Shonga wants because it’s really difficult to say going to Simba SC is a step back in his career when he is not playing regular football.”
