While the visitors drew further clear of the relegation zone, SuperSport lost touch with the title chasers in the league race.
The home side grabbed the early lead in the opening exchanges, but the visitors hit back and romped clear to take the advantage before the halfway mark.
Bradley Grobler snatched the lead for the hosts in the first 10 minutes before Maritzburg stormed back into the game with a quick-fire double strike.
Heinrich Isaacks hit the back of the net, and David Booysen backed up the equaliser when he connected with a Kurt Lentjies’ corner to put the visitors in front.
Holding off their hosts for the rest of the second period, Maritzburg put the result beyond doubt in the dying stages when Terrence Mandaza found the back of the net.
The Team of Choice remained fourth from bottom in the table, but were seven points clear of the danger zone, while Matsatsantsa dropped to eighth place in the standings.
