He was allegedly offered $10 000 (about R120 000) by the home side Desportivo Niefeng to swing the result in their favour.

According to news agencies in Zimbabwe, Matemera reported the matter to Caf authorities.

“The Chronicle reports that, officials from the home side, working in cahoots with Togolese match commissioner Lawson Mahuwe as their emissary, tried to offer Matemera and his assistants a cash bribe of $10 000 to ensure the Equatorial Guinea side won the match to advance to the group stage of the competition,” read a report from Zimbabwe.
