‘The worst SA team I have seen in the last five years’ – GFA president blasts Bafana

The Ghanaian Football Association continued to lambast the South African Football Association and Bafana Bafana on Thursday, with Ghanaian FA president Kurt Okraku joining the party on a national radio station.

This came after the GFA had issued a scathing statement earlier in the day, apparently in response to Safa’s press conference on Wednesday, where they announced exactly why they had written to Fifa demanding an investigation into performance of the match officials in Sunday’s 1-0 win for Ghana over South Africa at the Cape Coast Stadium.

That 1-0 win, courtesy of a controversial penalty, meant the Black Stars topped Group G and made it to the final round of qualifying at Bafana’s expense.

The GFA statement, however, chose to focus more on perceived inaccuracies from Safa about the amount of time it took to travel from the Ghanaian capital Accra to the Cape Coast, and other issues, using only one line to even mention the Senegalese match officials, the subject of Safa’s complaint to Fifa.

Okraku continued the GFA’s attack on Bafana and Safa on Ghanaian radio station Joy FM.

“Since when did South Africa become superpower over Ghana in football? Are we kidding here?” said Okraku.

“This is the worst South African team I have seen in the last five years and they do not deserve to qualify. I am so angry about their attitude and they are so disrespectful about the quality of things we have here in Ghana.

“That is the truth, (South Africa) were not confident in themselves. Haven’t we had quotations from their head coach? Haven’t we?

“It’s important that somebody will tell Danny Jordaan that he must speak the truth to the South African people, to understand that their team, per their own judgement, is not good enough to make it to the Mundial (World Cup).”
