Why league is more important to SuperSport than Confed Cup

SuperSport United goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse says the lines are not blurred between his team’s commitment in the Confederation Cup and the Absa Premiership.

Matsatsantsa A Pitori are one step away from reaching the group stages of the Confederation Cup – a tournament they reached the final of last year – while at the same time, they are trying to move away from the relegation quagmire.

They are third from bottom ahead of rock-bottom Platinum Stars and Muhsin Ertugral’s 15th placed Ajax Cape Town.

United will play Kenyan side Gor Mahia FC over two legs in contention for a spot in the group stage of the Caf Confederation Cup.

“We need to focus on the league as well because at this point it is very important,” Pieterse told Phakaaathi.

“At the end of the day, for us to go to the next round, we get to travel and see new things while also trying new things against different opponents,” he added.

The former Kaizer Chiefs goal minder added: “When it comes to us players, we take it (Confederation Cup) seriously and the club takes it seriously but at the end of the day, the league is the most important thing at the moment.”
