We slept on the floor in Angola – Gould

Matsatsantsa were in Luanda last week where they held Petro Athletico to a goalless draw in their Caf Confederation Cup group stage qualifier.

“You can ask the guys from Bidvest Wits that in Angola we literally slept on the floor because the beds are so hard,” he said.

Wits coach Gavin Hunt confirmed to Phakaaathi that indeed they abandoned the “concrete hard” beds for the floor. The Students were also in Luanda where they faced Primeiro de Agosto in the Caf Champions League group stage qualifier.

“Yes, we were in the same hotel and we slept on the floor,” he said.

“We couldn’t sleep because there were mosquitoes,” he chuckled. “But we are re not complaining… that’s Africa for you,” he added.

Nonetheless, Gould said one needs to develop a thick skin in order to survive in continental competitions.

“Playing in Africa teaches you a lot and you have to a mental and physical positivity because we go through a lot. People don’t understand how much we go through.

“We sacrifice and at SuperSport we are not ones to complain and say this and that. If that’s the treatment that we are going to get to reach the top, we are going to do. We have done the past season where we
reached the final and we want to do it again.”
