Usuthu out to reclaim owed points at Chiefs, says Sikhakhane

Thembela Sikhakhane of AmaZulu feels Kaizer Chiefs owe them three points. The defender says the points were denied to them by a controversial penalty call in the first round game between the two sides. 

In that game at Kings Park in Durban referee Jelly Chavani made a controversial call in the dying minutes of the game. He had initially urged play on but changed his mind and gave Amakhosi the penalty.

Replays showed he had got it wrong as Thapelo Xoki had his arms behind him and the ball had hit his shoulder. Chavani was later sanctioned by Safa for the gaffe and was sent to officiate in the lower divisions. 

Now Usuthu are out to collect the two points they dropped in that loss and Sikhakhane says they want nothing but a win at FNB Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The game kicks off at 5 pm. 

“It is obviously a big game for us. The coach (Benni McCarthy) has told us that we cannot lose this one. We also feel the same as players,” Sikhakhane says.  

“Everyone in the team knows that Kaizer Chiefs owes us. They were awarded a penalty that was proven to have been a wrong call when we last played them in Durban.”

Keagan Dolly converted from the spot to equalise for Amakhosi as the game ended 1-1 that day, leaving McCarthy seething.
