This was the first time Downs scored more than one goal in the tournament, which showed their determination to win the match, and they were also helped by the continued firm defence and the brilliance of goalkeeper Andile Dlamini between the poles.

Downs were moving swiftly forward with the ball, putting the Ghanaians under pressure. Just five minutes into the match, Morifi Chuene delivered a well taken corner into the opponents’ box, but the Downs ladies weren’t able to use the chance and Hasacaas cleared the danger away.

But, Hasacaas came through with a goal scare on the 24th minute, but the attempt went wide. Two minutes after the half hour mark, things would finally fall into place the Brazilians after a good link up play saw Andisiwe Mgcoyi delivering a good cross which found Chuene in the danger and easily tapped the ball into the net with her side foot.

The Ghanaians key players like Veronica Appiah struggled to unlock the Downs defence, resorting to long range shots, but Dlamini was making good saves to take her team into the break in the lead.

Banyana Ba Style looked more enterprising in the early stages of the second stanza, as they went in search of a second goal.

With Downs having made more attempts in front of goals, they finally extended their lead in the 64th minute, thanks to Mgcoyi, making things much worse for the side from Ghana.

In the 79th minute, Dlamini, who had been fantastic throughout the game made a brilliant save to deny Perpetual Agyekum’s powerful shot from a set-piece on the edge of the box.

In additional time, Regina Mogolola was red-carded after only 10 minutes on the field.

However, there was nothing the Ghanaians could do, as Downs went on to lift the trophy.
