There’s no need to panic – Mere

Despite Dikwena’s precarious position, Mere believes Roger De Sa’s men have what it takes to move from the bottom of the Absa Premiership table. Mere says it will take cool heads for Dikwena to emerge victorious when they host Baroka FC at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace this coming Wednesday night.

“We can’t afford to put pressure on ourselves because already we are under pressure. We need to be calm and just play our normal game. It’s difficult because we have been panicking. We have been losing games towards the end because we have been panicking. We are looking for three points. Hopefully we will go there with cool heads and get maximum points, which can boost our chances of surviving relegation,” said Mere.

During the Fifa break, Mere says he and his teammates were working on their shortcomings. One of those is lack of confidence, which he attributes some losses to. The versatile veteran, who has played for 18 seasons in the PSL, is confident a resurgent Dikwena will take to the pitch in search of maximum points against Baroka.

“Obviously we have been trying to work on our mistakes. We have also been working on our confidence. It’s not easy. We need everybody confident at this time. Confidence helps a lot. We need to be calm. In the games that we have been playing, we were not ourselves. We have been conceding goals. I don’t remember when last we kept a clean sheet. The only thing we have lost is confidence. We need to have it back. We need to believe because we are capable. The only way to bring back our confidence is to work on the pitch and win games,” said Dikwena skipper.

“Everybody should just bring their A game in the match. We have to go to the next game with positive minds. If we look at the results, it will kill our morale and the confidence of the team. There’s a lot of games where we played well but we didn’t get the results. We need not to give up. I think we can do it. There’s 18 points to play for. It’s achievable,” said Mere.

Dikwena’s clash with Baroka FC kicks off at 7.30pm.
