Teko hopes Kaizer Chiefs keep Komphela

Komphela, who is in his third season at Chiefs, is under pressure to deliver silverware at Naturena after failing to win a trophy in the past two seasons.

He is said to have been given an ultimatum to win a trophy or have his contract not renewed by the club.

Modise, however, insists Komphela has done well for Chiefs and hopes the club keeps him beyond the current season.

“Look at the transition he has made in building the team; the number of young players and also a core that is ageing. People have been critical without understanding the process that is ongoing inside the club,” Modise told The Sowetan.

“He is a smart coach who believes in his vision. At some point people were thinking he is crazy. To be a great coach you need to be crazy sometimes; to take decisions that are unpopular, and he has been doing that.

“Hopefully, in the coming season he will still be coaching the same team to justify what it was that he was busy doing,” added Modise.

Komphela’s contract with Chiefs expires at the end of June.
