SuperSport United confirm Tinkler appointment amid media chaos

Tinkler has left Cape Town City FC to sign a three-year deal with Matsatsantsa.

“My ambitions are to win trophies. SuperSport has been in several finals over the last three years, and I aim to get to those finals and win those finals,”said Tinkler.

The announcement was delayed by about 30 minutes on Thursday at Multichoice City as members of the media staged a walkout, following the club’s decision to put out a press release and conduct an in-house television interview, before an official press conference.

SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews did issue an apology to the media over the incident.

“We are excited about Eric taking the team forward. He has earned his stripes as an international player and as a coach, he has a fantastic track record of both building young players and being fiercely competitive within the PSL. By qualifying for a variety of domestic and continental Cup finals, he has shown his potential to be one of the great South African coaches of the future,” added Matthews in a statement on Tinkler’s appointment.
