SuperSport set Friday deadline for Baxter-Safa talks

As reported last week, Safa has given permission by SuperSport to conduct talks with Baxter over the vacant Bafana Bafana job.

“Nothing has been finalised yet,” SuperSport CEO Stanley Matthews told The Star.

“We have asked for a conclusion by Friday because we cannot have this go on for longer. It can have some serious repercussions to our plans this season.

“We can’t hold Stuart back if he feels he wants to take the opportunity, but we need to be prepared for life after him.”

Matthews, however, reiterated the club’s stance that Baxter would only be allowed to leave at the end of the season.

“We are still not prepared to allow him to go before the end of the season because that will hurt us.

“We have big league games coming up, and we want to be the first team to retain the Nedbank Cup and could go all the way in the Caf Confederation Cup,” explained Matthews.

Meanwhile, Baxter has allegedly told the Safa that he would accept the Bafana Bafana coaching job on condition that his son, Lee, was appointed as national team goalkeeper coach.

According to Times Media Digital, Baxter has agreed personal terms of a salary believed to be in the region of R1 million a month for his second stint with the senior national team.
