SuperSport looking to turn the corner against Kaizer Chiefs

SuperSport United are looking to turn the corner at the expense of Kaizer Chiefs, when the two teams clash in a DStv Premiership encounter at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Both teams are struggling for form in 2024, with Matsatsantsa a Pitori winless in eight league matches. Meanwhile, Amakhosi have lost four of their last five matches and are in danger of missing out on a top eight finish if results don’t improve.

United goalkeeper Washington Arubi maintains that they are ready to halt their poor run of form and push for a second place finish with six games remaining.

“The preparations have been going well and the atmosphere in camp is good even though we have not been getting results that we want but we have been giving our all,” he said.

“Sometimes in life you have to create your own luck. We are positive that one day we will turn the corner and we’re looking forward to this game against Kaizer Chiefs because it’s a big game for both teams. We’re coming from losses and both of us are wounded but the team that will put in more effort is the team that will win the game.”

The Tshwane-based team have been blowing hot and cold in a season that promised so much but delivered very little. They will end the season trophyless after being knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by Stellenbosch FC recently.

‘It will make our lives easier’

“The attitude is good and it’s just a matter of not conceding because we have been scoring. If we don’t concede, then we will win the game. The season has been up and down which is part of life,” the 38-year-old veteran shot stopper reflected.

“When the season started, we were looking at winning maybe two or three cups but right now we still have a chance of finishing second and qualify for the Caf Champions League. That is something that we want starting from the game against Kaizer Chiefs. If we pick up maximum points, it will make our lives easier going forward.

“I just want to say to our fans that we’re thankful for the effort that they have put in. We know that we have been disappointing but they have been with us everywhere we go and I’m sure on Saturday we will turn the corner.”

Arubi, who started in the 2-0 loss to Chippa United last Saturday, will once again deputise for first choice goalkeeper Ricardo Goss who remains suspended after receiving a red card against Polokwane City.
