Sundowns still keen on ‘not for sale’ Motshwari

Phakaaathi has learnt that Mamelodi Sundowns are still chasing the signature of Bidvest Wits midfielder Ben Motshwari, despite the Clever Boys making it clear the midfielder is not for sale.

According to the source, Motshwari is up for a big-money move to Sundowns, but he says he won’t leave Wits if the club doesn’t give him their blessing.

“The move might happen or not, but Wits are really insisting on keeping him at the club. This is a very complicated issue between Wits and Ben. He feels he owes the club a lot, so he won’t leave if he doesn’t get the club’s blessing. But again, Downs are not going to give up easily on signing him,” said the source.

Meanwhile, Pitso Mosimane says Sundowns could release more players before the transfer window shuts on Wednesday.

The Masandawana coach has already let Mogakolodi Ngele go to SuperSport United on loan while he has also confirmed that Siyanda Zwane has joined Ajax Cape Town on loan.

“We will see, I don’t like to keep big numbers,” added Mosimane. “I like to have 24 or 25 players. When you have up to 30 players you can have a disgruntled or unhappy camp, so it is important to release players. Unfortunately not many teams want to buy (as opposed to loan) our players.”
