Uzoenyi signed a four-year deal with Sundowns in 2014 following his impressive showing for Nigeria at the Africa Nations Championship in South Africa that same year.
The winger, however, struggled for regular playing time at the Brazilians and, after failing to make a league appearance for Sundowns during the 2015/16 season, he was not registered for the 2016/17 campaign.
“We finally reached a mutual agreement to terminate Ejike Uzoenyi’s contract with Sundowns after two and a half years,” wrote Uzoenyi’s agent, Mohammed Lawal, on his Twitter account.
“We are now focusing on the options before us, and very soon Ejike Uzoenyi will be back in the field doing what he loves most, playing football.”
Uzoenyi is said to have started training with Wits, as he looks to secure himself another contract in South Africa.
